Honestly? It will never work, and it's a horrible idea. I mean, I know that politicians only do things for votes, because Mum drilled that into my head, but don't these people ever think?

How are they even planning on accounting for the Muggleborn children who don't know what they're doing? Or any of the others for whom magic is such an integral part of their life that they can't even keep track of it?

I hope Mum sends me some of the Muggle coverage soon. I'm already bracing myself for the misinformation and stupidity.

The train attack was so awful in so many ways. School just hasn't been the same since.

Mum sent me a few articles about it from the Muggle news. They're almost all horrified too. References to events of twenty years ago were made, and the tone was general outrage.

With the new war in India and Pakistan, and the attack on the New Year's Gala, Mum sent a substantial stack of newspaper clippings this morning. Her letter said she was also on the news, discussing how this might impact Magic/Muggle relations, as she's apparently the expert.

As far as I'm concerned, both are a shame, though neither is a surprise. India and Pakistan have never been completely stable, if I recall, and the Gala... there was so much speculation in the media, someone had to live up to the hype.

I wish the best for everyone, and hope the injuries are minimal and that the culprits appropriately caught and punished.
